Kay’s highly developed communication and research skills, honed over many years as a print journalist and editor, enable her to raise the bar when providing information to clients or presenting a property to the market.
She protects and promotes the well-being and financial security of her clients with all the thoroughness and tenacity that won her awards as an investigative reporter.
She is well versed in the subtle psychology of negotiation, and savvy in sizing up hidden value. (She suspects these skills first developed during her early years spent buying and selling horses to put herself through school.)
Her academic training and subsequent public service as a journalist reflect her commitment to social justice issues. She has served on the City of Kingston’s Housing and Homelessness Committee, Kingston Interval House women's shelter (2014-2018), and currently is a member of the Social Planning Council of Kingston. She has worked for several years with Kingston's Housing Action Coalition to promote affordable housing and progressive land-use planning.
Kay is an accredited Senior Real Estate Specialist and Kingston's only Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). The CAPS designation is based on a successful completion of a three-day classroom program offered in the U.S. She is trained to advise older homeowners on a broad spectrum of issues that often arise when considering a move.
Kay has an Honours B.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of King’s College in Halifax. A former Canadian Press editor, she wrote regularly for the Queen’s Gazette for several years, and writes occasionally for the Whig Standard on matters of special community interest.
Kay is a member of the Kingston Blue Marlins Masters Swim Team, and is ranked among the top ten swimmers nationally in her age group. In 2014-2015, she competed successfully in the Ontario, Canadian and World Masters Swim Championships. She has completed the 5 km Great Wolfe Swim from Kingston to Wolfe Island.
